The Library of Ashurbanipal
Located in Nineveh (modern-day Iraq), the Library of Ashurbanipal is considered the oldest known library. Dating back to the 7th century BCE, it housed thousands of clay tablets inscribed with myths, medical knowledge, and legal documents. Its discovery provided critical insights into Mesopotamian culture.
Ancient Buddhist Libraries
In India, monasteries served not only as places of worship but also as centers of learning. Monks meticulously copied and preserved texts on philosophy, medicine, and astronomy. These collections became vital conduits for spreading knowledge across Asia.
The House of Wisdom
